'16 and Pregnant' Dad Arrested for Drugged Driving

Anyone who’s seen MTV’s “16 and Pregnant” knows that the teen parents featured on the show aren’t always the most responsible human beings.

Last week, Weston Gosa, the father of Whitney Purvis’ child, illustrated that point by allegedly crashing his car while drugged driving in Floyd County, TMZ reports. According to authorities, Gosa was under the influence of prescription drugs at the time of his arrest.

On July 4, 23-year-old Gosa reportedly crashed his car while driving in Floyd County. Police suspected that Gosa was under the influence during the accident and arrested him.

According to authorities, police found Xanax and Lorcet in Gosa’s possession. Gosa didn’t have a prescription for the medications. Police also found a pipe with residue in it, authorities say.

Gosa has been charged with felony possession of controlled substances, misdemeanor possession of drug-related objects, and DUI. Under Georgia’s DUI law, it’s illegal to drive while under the influence of alcohol or any controlled substance.

Georgia and many other states have per se drugged driving laws. Georgia’s law holds that people who are found to have any trace of a controlled substance in their system at the time of arrest can be charged with DUI. That means a person can be charged with DUI for a joint they smoked a week before.

If Weston Gosa is found guilty of his DUI charge he could face a maximum fine of $1,000, 10 days to 12 months in prison, at least 40 hours of community service, and completion of a drug risk reduction program. Gosa wasn’t the first “16 and Pregnant” cast member to be arrested. Last month, teen mom Jenelle Evans was arrested on assault charges.
